Susan truly isn't working any particular angle - she's just trying to understand Laertes's perspective, so that she might respond to it appropriately. At his question, she blinks. "I'm not certain," she admits, and thinks for a moment. "Most examples I could draw on would be appropriate from the world I came from, not necessarily this one, beyond the normal sort - need for space counter to someone's need for companionship, and the like. I imagine, though, that from a group of people who largely share little background, there might be different understandings of what constitutes a need, and what ways are appropriate to seek fulfilling them."
