untamedantinous: (it is fitting and right to die for one's)
[personal profile] untamedantinous
Jean Prouvaire, Bahorel, and M. Mabeuf. These men died on this day in Paris, fighting for a republic and a free France. They will not be forgotten. I must confess I knew two far better than the last; but they were all gallant, honorable men.

[He opens the door after a moment or two, and gives her a small nod. He looks like he hasn't slept -- which he hasn't, actually, and there are various books scattered around the room. In an effort to keep himself from his thoughts, he has been reading. But it hasn't worked all that well.]

[Rachel glances around him, to the state of the room, and frowns slightly.]

Have you slept at all?

That's not good.

[She sighs before she steps inside.]

I can make you tea.

I have gone without sleep for far longer, do not fret.

[Oh. Right, he should try to make the place a bit presentable, shouldn't he. He moves to pick up some books.

I am alright.

It is in my experience that pretending you are all right is far more detrimental to one's health than accepting that you are not all right.

[Rachel hesitates before she stoops to pick up a fallen book, to help.]

Have you read all of these?

I should read more -- not that I don't, of course, I am a perfect student --

[Rachel smooths out a cover curiously.]

But certainly not things like this.

[That one that she's holding is actually Dante's Purgatory, picked purely because it reminded him of Jean Prouvaire.]

I do not often read things like that -- [He nods to the book.] --Very seldom, in fact. But Jehan was a Romantic. He favored those sorts of things.

[Rachel's hold on the book becomes a little more gentle, after she realizes what it means.]

You would think you'd want to read about Heaven and not the parts in between. Anna -- one of the angels here -- makes purgatory sound pretty terrible.

[A little shrug.] He and Combeferre both favored the writings of Dante.

[Rachel puts Purgatorio on the table gently before stooping to pick up more.]

I suppose it can be more captivating to people than political writings. No offense. [A quick addition with a quick, sheepish smile.] Do you have the other two parts? There are three of them, aren't there?

I do not, at the moment, but they can probably be found in the library if you have any great desire to read them.

Well, it would be for you, not for me. It's not really my thing -- give me sheet music over this any day.

[She stacks a few more books on top of Purgatorio.]

You know, there are rainbow sheep outside.

As I said, it is not mine, either.

[He blinks a little.]

Really.

Really.

[Enjolras, that only confirms Rachel's suspicions that you haven't left the house since the event started. But that's perfectly okay -- because if anything is an excellent distraction, it is:]

Large, fuzzy, rainbow sheep.

[Rachel, you are quite correct :D]

...How very odd. I suppose I should expect nothing less, here.

They seem pretty harmless -- like normal sheep, just -- very flamboyantly colored. Edward caught a few of them in a pen.

[She's just talking to talk, really -- anything is better than dwelling on what's happening in France, right now.]

Perhaps they will be useful.

[He's still going around picking up scattered books.]

Maybe. If they don't disappear, anyway.

[She moves to help him, with half a smile.]

I think you've taken half of the library.

Or at least three-quarters of the political section.

[Rachel grins before sitting on the edge of a chair, putting the last of the books in front of her.]

Only three quarters? How generous of you. I'm certain you were sparse in your selections.
