untamedantinous: (it is fitting and right to die for one's)
[personal profile] untamedantinous
Jean Prouvaire, Bahorel, and M. Mabeuf. These men died on this day in Paris, fighting for a republic and a free France. They will not be forgotten. I must confess I knew two far better than the last; but they were all gallant, honorable men.

[Rachel originally adored knowing everything and anything about Enjolras' life.

But it's days like these that she is painfully reminded that the story of Les Miserables is dreadfully real for him.]

Are you okay?

[There is a lengthy pause before he finally responds.]

[Oh, dear. No video. Rachel switches to text.]

Remembering them as they should be remembered is the right thing to do, regardless of whether or not you are stuck here. You should use today to do that.

[He doesn't wanna see people today, okay. Well, maybe Rachel.]

[She will make you feel better whether you like it or not. >:|]

Do you want company?

I will be there in half an hour.

[She doesn't respond to that text, choosing instead to get ready to go over. Luckily, the event this week isn't anything drastically dangerous, so the most Rachel has to deal with on the way there is a few curious rainbow colored sheep who want to take a closer look. She arrives promptly on time, knocking after a moment's hesitation.

What do you say? Assure him that at least one of his friends got out alive? She can't do that without also letting him know that, in her world, his death is a dramatic masterpiece on a stage -- and Rachel didn't exactly think he would appreciate that knowledge. Not today, anyway.

She frowns to herself in thought, as she waits. She really is terrible at comfort.]

[He opens the door after a moment or two, and gives her a small nod. He looks like he hasn't slept -- which he hasn't, actually, and there are various books scattered around the room. In an effort to keep himself from his thoughts, he has been reading. But it hasn't worked all that well.]

[Rachel glances around him, to the state of the room, and frowns slightly.]

Have you slept at all?

That's not good.

[She sighs before she steps inside.]

I can make you tea.

I have gone without sleep for far longer, do not fret.

[Oh. Right, he should try to make the place a bit presentable, shouldn't he. He moves to pick up some books.

I am alright.

It is in my experience that pretending you are all right is far more detrimental to one's health than accepting that you are not all right.

[Rachel hesitates before she stoops to pick up a fallen book, to help.]

Have you read all of these?

I should read more -- not that I don't, of course, I am a perfect student --

[Rachel smooths out a cover curiously.]

But certainly not things like this.

[That one that she's holding is actually Dante's Purgatory, picked purely because it reminded him of Jean Prouvaire.]

I do not often read things like that -- [He nods to the book.] --Very seldom, in fact. But Jehan was a Romantic. He favored those sorts of things.

[Rachel's hold on the book becomes a little more gentle, after she realizes what it means.]

You would think you'd want to read about Heaven and not the parts in between. Anna -- one of the angels here -- makes purgatory sound pretty terrible.

[A little shrug.] He and Combeferre both favored the writings of Dante.

[Rachel puts Purgatorio on the table gently before stooping to pick up more.]

I suppose it can be more captivating to people than political writings. No offense. [A quick addition with a quick, sheepish smile.] Do you have the other two parts? There are three of them, aren't there?

I do not, at the moment, but they can probably be found in the library if you have any great desire to read them.

Well, it would be for you, not for me. It's not really my thing -- give me sheet music over this any day.

[She stacks a few more books on top of Purgatorio.]

You know, there are rainbow sheep outside.

Really.

[Enjolras, that only confirms Rachel's suspicions that you haven't left the house since the event started. But that's perfectly okay -- because if anything is an excellent distraction, it is:]

Large, fuzzy, rainbow sheep.
